iPhone

If you have an iOS device and your location is not updating, please follow the troubleshooting steps described below.

Check the location service and Wi-Fi settings on your phone. It’s important that both GPS and Wi-Fi (even if they are not connected) are activated on your phone. Please note that accuracy depends on many factors, such as your environment and your phone. There are moments when the highest accuracy will not be available (underground, for example).

Enable Location Services

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Reconnect Community > “Always”
  • Settings > General > Background App Refresh > On > Reconnect Community > On

Turn on Wi-Fi

Reconnect Community uses a Wi-Fi signal to estimate a current location when GPS signal is not available (indoor or underground). We recommend you turn on Wi-Fi even if you don’t use it.

  • Settings > Wi-Fi on

Make sure Internet connection is active

Since Reconnect Community updates your location via 3G/LTE/Wi-Fi, your iPhone should always be connected to the internet.

  • Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data “on”, Reconnect Community “on”

Disable Low Power Mode

If enabled, these settings can prevent Reconnect Community from running in the background. Therefore, your location will only be updated for your friends when you open the application.

To check, go to:

  • Settings > Battery > verify that Low Power Mode is disabled

Do not remove the app from the background

Reconnect Community needs to communicate with an iPhone, even if it's running in the background. Battery consumption is minimal.

iOS 14 Update

Reconnect Community needs high accuracy Location Services for it to function optimally. With the iOS 14 update from Apple a new feature was added called Approximate Location. This feature can inhibit the accuracy of the location given back by the app on your client's device.

To turn off Approximate Location

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Reconnect Community > “Always”
  • Make sure that Precise Location is ON

Android

If you have an Android device and your location is not updating please follow the steps below.

Enable Location Services

Reconnect Community will not be able to detect your location if location services are turned off.

  • Settings > (Google) > Location (service) > enable all settings & set to High accuracy

Check 3rd Party Auto-Clean Application

Some third-party auto-cleanup applications can prevent Reconnect Community from running. If you have downloaded any cache cleaning or memory cleaning apps, please verify that Reconnect Community is exempt from this.

Reboot the Phone

In some cases, the device may have lost the connection with the location service. In this situation, rebooting the device will resolve the problem.

Give Reconnect Community Permission to Access Location

  • Settings > Apps & notifications > Reconnect Community > Permissions > Location > Allow all the time

Android 10

  • Settings > Apps > Reconnect Community > Permissions > Location > Allow all the time

Android 9

  • Settings > Apps > Reconnect Community > Permissions > Location > Enable

Enable Mobile Data Usage

Android (all versions)

  • Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data > ON

Disable Data Saver / Data Restriction

Android (all versions)

  • Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver > OFF

or

  • Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver > Allow app while Data saver on > Reconnect Community > ON (an option for users who want to turn on data saver)

To Turn Off Battery Optimizations for an App:

  • Settings > Device care > Battery > App power management > Sleeping apps > Remove Reconnect Community if added
  • Settings > Device care > Battery > App power management > Deep Sleeping apps > Remove Reconnect Community if added
  • Settings > Device care > Battery > App power management > Apps that won’t be put to sleep > Add Reconnect Community

Android 9

  • Settings > Device care > Battery > Power mode > Optimized
  • Settings > Device care > Auto optimization (top right) > OFF
  • Settings > Device care > Battery > Settings (Top right) > Sleeping apps > Remove Reconnect Community if added

Android 7 & 8

  • Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Power saving mode > OFF
  • Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored apps > Add apps > Reconnect Community > Done

Android 6

  • Settings > Battery > Detail > Reconnect Community > App power saving: Turned off

Android 5

  • Battery > App optimization: Detail > ON / Reconnect Community > Disabled

  • Settings > Battery > Battery usage (top right) > Reconnect Community > Battery optimization > Background restriction > Remove restriction (if applicable)

  • Settings > Battery > Battery Saver > Off / Never turn on automatically
  • Settings > Battery > Battery optimization (top right) > Reconnect Community > Don’t optimize

Huawei

Enable Mobile Data Usage

Android 8

  • Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile network > Mobile data > ON

Disable Data Saver / Data Restriction

Android 8

  • Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile data > Data saver > OFF
  • Turn off Battery Saver and/or Battery Optimizations
  • Reconnect Community should be running in the background. But if battery optimizations are activated, Android force closes the Reconnect Community process.

To Turn Off Battery Optimizations for an App:

  • Settings > Battery > Power saving mode > OFF
  • Settings > Battery > Close apps after screen lock > Reconnect Community: OFF
  • Settings > Battery > Optimize > XX apps are running when the screen is off, close to save battery power > Reconnect Community > Close after screen locked: OFF
  • Settings > Battery > Optimize > XX apps are running when the screen is off, close to save battery power > Reconnect Community > Close after screen locked: OFF
  • Settings > Apps > Reconnect Community > Battery > Close after screen locked: OFF
  • Settings > Mobile data > Data saver > Reconnect Community: ON

  • Settings > Advanced Settings > Battery Manager > Protected apps > Reconnect Community: ON

  • OR Power saving mode: Standard or OFF
  • Security > Permissions > Autostart > Reconnect Community: ON
  • Task management > Lock the app, prevent Reconnect Community from being killed by cleanup background tasks.

Sony

Android 7 & 8

  • STAMINA > STAMINA level > Balanced power-saving OR Device performance preferred
  • OR you can access the STAMINA settings from ‘Battery’
  • Ultra STAMINA mode should not be activated
